Summary
After two goals in the first four minutes, the match petered out a little. Brighton will probably be happier with the draw, although they were unlucky to concede a harsh penalty. That said, they remain unbeaten this season, and lie in second behind Hull, who top the table on goal difference. Burnley are fifth, two points off the top.

Full-time: Burnley 1-1 Brighton
Not one shot on target in that second half.
90+2 min: Burnley have a half-shout for a penalty, Boyd going down under the challenge of Greer, but replays show the Brighton captain got the ball.
90 min: What a miss from Long! Darikwa sprints to the byline and delivers a cross. Boyd and Dunk go up for the ball but neither make a meaningful connection, and Long pounces on the loose ball, two yards out, but stabs it wide of the post. Head in hands stuff, he can’t believe he’s missed! Three minutes added on here.
Updated
87 min: Dunk is the latest Brighton defender to be outfoxed by Gray, getting too close to the Burnley striker before scything him down. Yellow card.
86 min: Burnley have voted Barton their man of the match. Probably deserved.
84 min: Brighton make another change: Hemed comes off for the man with the best name at Turf Moor today, Elvis Manu. Greer goes in the book for a cynical challenge on Gray, who threatened to get in behind the Brighton defence. A good foul to give away.
Updated
83 min: A golden chance for Arfield… but he’s blown it. A slip from Greer allowed Gray to get time a space to cross, his low delivery evading everyone in the box, and Arfield just had to side-foot it in, but he passes it wide! Stockdale was rushing out to meet Arfield but he should have buried it.
81 min: He’s by no means been the stand-out player, but Barton has been everywhere for Burnley today, biting, snapping and being an absolute terrier in the middle of the pitch. At 33 years of age, Joey just keeps on trucking. It was odd the way QPR let him go, he’s exactly what they are missing at the moment.
79 min: Corner to Burnley. At the moment, set-pieces look like their best chance of winning this one. Dunk half-clears the cross with his head, and then completes the job when the second ball comes into the Brighton box.
77 min: Jones ruddy loves a Cruyff turn. He’s just done two back-to-back in the centre-circle to avoid Stephens.
74 min: Ooooooo, Arfield very nearly brings this match back to life! A tidy flick finds Long and Arfield smashes the return ball a yard wide of Stockdale’s goal. The keeper was never getting there had the shot been a touch to the right. Arfield has got knack of scoring worldy goals: he netted this beauty in the Lancashire derby against Blackburn in October …
… and scored this screamer on the first game of last season, when Burnley were in the Premier League.
73 min: Nothing is happening. Since Brighton switched formation, all the life has gone from the game.
71 min: Mee catches Greer with a clumsy challenge. Yellow card. He’s now one booking away from a suspension.
67 min: Brighton are looking like the team that are going to go on and win this. Gray hasn’t had a touch in about 15 minutes. Brighton have had 56% possession – an impressive stat away from home – but have made all the running since the break.
65 min: And that’s Zamora’s last contribution. He’s off for Forster-Caskey. Looks like Brighton will switch to a five-man midfield, with Hemed as the lone striker. A quick Google tells me Forster-Caskey is the step-son of Nicky Forster.
63 min: There’s life in the old dog yet! Zamora rumbles down the left flank, cuts inside on his right, and floats a cross to the back stick. March comes haring onto it, but the ball is just behind the run of the 21-year-old, who was five yards out from goal. If he connects with that, March scores.
61 min: But it’s Burnley who make the first change: Hennings comes off for Chris Long, a signing from Everton. Long scored four goals last season on loan at Brentford before making the switch in the summer.
58 min: Bobby Zamora is looking a little jaded out there, I can’t imagine it will be too long before we see some changes. Maybe Akindayini will get a run out – he’s a former Spurs striker.
55 min: “Most of the dancefloors in Burnley have red lights rather than claret if that is your thing, much like the new red lighting of the Ethiad Stadium in Manchester,” emails Raymond Reardon.
I think Raymond is alluding to this …
53 min: March is booked for bringing down Mee on the left. Not a bad challenge, but I think the referee remembers a similar challenge by March in the first half. Barton whips it in but the ball is walloped clear, again by Duff. The ball finds its way onto the roof of one of the stands, and rolls down the gutter back onto the field, just as play restarts from the throw-in.
51 min: Zamora does superbly well to win a long-ball hoof and help to get his side up the pitch. The ball breaks to Bruno but his cross is too short, and Duff is able to head away.
49 min: Burnley have started like a train in this second half. First Darikwa whips in a delicious cross with the outside of his boot, then Gray ties Dunk in knots on the byline and does well to win a corner for the home side.
47 min: Hennings cleverly knocks the ball down to Boyd, who again comes off his right wing. Boyd has options left and right as he bears down on goal, but instead lets fly and the ball flies high and wide, a good 10 yards from the frame Stockdale’s goal. Gray is furious, he wanted a through-ball there.
Peeeeeep! We’re underway again. No changes from either side at the break.
I’ve heard that The Blackout Crew, who are from Bolton I think, are big on the Burnley music scene. Can anybody confirm this?
Speaking of nights out in Burnley, where would one go? Any recommendations? There must be a lighted dancefloor out there somewhere. Brighton is obviously good for a night out, too.

Half-time: Burnley 1-1 Brighton
Even stevens at Turf Moor.
45 min: Bruno sends in a deep cross and Zamora has far too much strength for Darikwa at the far post, but the 34-year-old can only direct his looping header onto the top of the net. One minute added on for injury time at the end of this first half.
43 min: March stretches for the ball but catches Mee from behind. Sean Dyche is calling for a yellow card but there was nothing malicious in that. It looked worse than it was.
42 min: Both sides look happy enough with 1-1 going into the break. Burnley have probably shaded the half.
41 min: From a Brighton corner, Jones gets his feet in all sorts of a muddle and the ball half-breaks to Keane, but the former Manchester United man can’t get his shot off inside the box.
38 min: Boyd slips in Gray, who appears to get clear of Greer, but Brighton’s captain slides and makes a crucial block tackle. Gray’s shot was definitely on its way to the bottom corner without that intervention. Great defending.
37 min: Is there a better beard in English football than the one on the chin of Bruno? Adam Clayton maybe? Tim Howard?
Joe Ledley's beard is pretty impressive @michaelbutler18

35 min: With Boyd and Arfield playing narrow, there is extra emphasis on Burnley’s full-backs to provide the width. Darikwa, a summer acquisition to replace Kieran Trippier, has been in great form this season, he plays more as a winger at times. Ben Mee, on the other flank, is Ben Mee. Boring and reliable.
32 min: After our frenetic start, it’s gone a little bit stale at Turf Moor. The crowd do their best to gee up the crowd. “Come on Burnley, come on Burnley” echoes down from the stands. We haven’t had a proper attempt on goal in about 10 minutes.
29 min: Barton is beginning to link the play nicely, feeding the ball to Arfield, who is causing troubles ‘in between the lines’, coming off his left flank. Both Burnley wide midfielders, Arfield and Boyd, don’t really play their stuff on the flanks, which means Burnley are a little narrow.
26 min: Brighton are coming back into this a little bit, although they’re still being forced to play long. Murphy latches onto a knockdown from Hemed but his touch gets away from him, and the midfielder air kicks a non-shot before collapsing to the turf. The home crowd boo him, but Murphy wasn’t really looking for a penalty in truth.
24 min: Joey Barton’s sideburns really are a thing to behold. He’s gone a little bit Elvis. Wonder how that goes down on a night out in Burnley.
Updated
22 min: Zamora gets up early and heads another March cross at goal, but the cross didn’t have enough pace on it, and the striker was too far out to trouble Heaton.
21 min: Two of the best goalkeepers in the division, for my money at least, on display today. Both Heaton and Stockdale have been called up to the England squad in the past, although neither has made a senior appearance. Heaton was included in the recents squads for the friendlies against Spain and France last week.
19 min: What a save from from Stockdale! Boyd is allowed to turn just inside the box and whips a driven cross towards Hennings who studs it goalwards, but Stockdale somehow claws it out and Bruno heads clear. Burnley are getting closer.
17 min: It’s just not sticking for Brighton’s forwards. Hemed takes the ball on his chest, waits for support and then boots it out of play, behind the onrushing Rosenior. The Israeli is having a few choice words with himself.
15 min: Zamora and Barton come to blows. That’s the latter’s first foul today, a wry smile creeps across his face as he retreats. Barton and Zamora were team-mates at QPR last season remember.
14 min: Darikwa goes down wide on the right and wins a free-kick. David Jones curls a delightful ball across the six-yard box but no Burnley player is able to get a touch and the ball nestles in Stockdale’s gut. Great cross. Jones is one of the most one-footed footballers out there, but he’s got a lovely left foot.
11 min: Burnley are pressing Brighton high up the pitch and the visitors are having a tough time of getting out of their own half at present. Every time the ball makes its way into a Brighton midfielder, Jones and Barton are snapping at their heels. Brighton are being forced to go long.
9 min: Bruno goes flying in on Arfield and Boyd takes aim from the resulting free-kick, his low shot oh-so-nearly creeping under the outstretched arm of Stockdale, who was lucky to see the ball squirm wide.
7 min: March again cuts in off the right flank with that left foot of his, but his drive towards Heaton’s near post is well saved by the keeper. The youngster is so fluid with his dribbling, he always looks like he’s got time on the ball, and plays with his head up. Certainly got a bright future.
GOAL! Burnley 1-1 Brighton (Gray 4, pen)
Gray makes no mistake, lifting the ball past Stockdale into the top right hand corner. He’s half-way to that home brace.

Penalty to Burnley!
3 min: It’s a breathless start to this match, and no mistake! Burnley win a corner and there’s some tussling in the box, and the referee points to the spot, penalising Lewis Dunk for wrestling with Michael Keane. They were all over each other, it could be argued that Keane fouled Dunk!
2 min: Sean Dyche is absolutely livid. He’s be tearing his hair out if he had any. The ease at which March got the byline was astounding.
GOAL! Burnley 0-1 Brighton (Zamora 1)
March sets off down the right, gets to the byline, cuts the ball back to Hemed, who smashes his shot against the underside of the bar and Zamora is first to react, poking the ball over the line. What a start!

Peeeep! And we’re underway!
The teams are out! Burnley in their traditional claret and blue, Brighton in their away kit, a fluorescent yellow number. We’re moments away from kick-off here.
The players congregate around the centre circle for a minute’s silence for the victims of the attacks in Paris. Immaculately observed.

Brighton had a complete overhaul in the summer – nine players out, nine players in – but they also have a good record of bringing young players through, which is only greatened by their £32m training complex, which was given Category 1 status a year ago. Local lad Solly March is probably the pick of the bunch, who was signed from local team Lewes when he was 17. Look out for him today.
Incidentally, has anyone ever been to Lewes for the bonfire night? It’s absolutely mad, feels a little bit like the end of the world. They’re always quite creative with their effigies: when I went a few years ago, Rebekah Brooks was riding a lizard-like Rupert Murdoch. This year, they went for a Cameron and a pig having a cuddle.
Have a read of Jacob Steinberg’s interview with Brighton’s Beram Kayal and Tomer Hemed, two Israelis that have been everpresent for Chris Hughton this season. Both start today.
Today’s teams
Burnley (4-4-2): Heaton; Darikwa, Duff, Keane, Mee; Boyd, Jones, Barton, Arfield; Hennings, Gray
Subs: Gilks, Ward, Kightly, Taylor, Lowton, Long, Marney
Burnley striker Sam Vokes, an former Brighton loanee, misses out with a groin injury. Vokes hasn’t scored many this season, but he has formed a great understanding with Gray, and been a bit reason for the latter’s success this season. Rouwen Hennings, a Germany U-21 international signed for £3m in the summer – who has yet to score for Burnley – takes Vokes’s place.

Brighton & Hove Albion (4-4-2): Stockdale; Bruno, Dunk, Greer, Rosenior; March, Kayal, Stephens, Murphy; Zamora, Hemed
Subs: Maenpaa, Chicksen, Goldson, Holla, Forster-Caskey, Manu, Akindayini
At the sharp end for Seagulls: Bobby Zamora, who last faced Burnley in a Brighton shirt in 2002, when the striker was just 21 years of age. What days they were.

Preamble
Is anyone getting a bit bored of the Jamie Vardy thing? Yes, it’s very (very) impressive that Vardy can’t stop scoring, particularly when he doesn’t have the same supply line as Ruud van Nistelrooy enjoyed (Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, Verón), but had anybody heard of that record before a few weeks ago? Does anybody actually care, or is this simply a footnote that the media have latched onto in an attempt to hype, hype, hype. Regardless, it all seems a bit much for Vardy to start tweeting that he’s “pinching himself” and start making post-match dressing-room speeches, akin to Wayne Rooney WHEN HE BROKE ENGLAND’S ALL-TIME GOAL RECORD. That’s a real record guys. At least Claudio Ranieri is getting the beers in. Look at the Italian’s face though. Just look at his face.

But Vardy isn’t the only player setting the world alight at the moment. Andre Gray, the man Burnley spent £9m on in the summer (£9m! Burnley!) has been tearing it up in the Championship since his move from Brentford. Gray, like Vardy, has made his way from non-league football and today against Brighton, and is bidding to become the first Burnley player to score two goals in four successive home games. Look at all these records. It’s almost too much to handle.
Gray won’t have it easy today though, as Burnley face a Brighton team that is just one point off the top of the table. Under Chris Hughton, the south-coast club remain the only professional team in England yet to lose a league game. That’s some going. Burnley are only two points back and are also firmly in the promotion picture, starting the day in fifth, but could usurp Brighton in second with a win of their own today.
The Championship is the best league in the country, and we’ve got a hum-dinger at the top of it. Woof.
