Burnley to sell former Bristol City and Leeds United target Matej Vydra - reports

Bristol City and every other ambitious Championship club will have been put on high alert today following the news former golden boot winner Matej Vydra will become available again this summer.

The Robins and Leeds United were heavily linked with Vydra last summer as the former looked to find a replacement for Bobby Reid who joined Cardiff City.

In the end the Czech Republic international, now 27, made a big-money move from Derby County to Premier League Burnley with Lee Johnson's City side signing Andreas Weimann from the Rams and Mo Eisa from League Two Cheltenham Town instead.

Weimann scored 10 goals in 46 appearances for the Robins in 2018/19, starting the season in red hot form with five goals in his first five league games.

Eisa, 24, did not work out at Ashton Gate and made just six appearances without scoring and City cut their loses this summer, selling him for a profit to League One side Peterborough United who have been long-term fans of the forward.

City head coach Johnson has previously stated he is looking for an additional forward to support record signing Famara Diedhiou up front. The Senegalese striker finished with just 13 goals last season.

The Sun on Sunday reports Burnley will sell Vydra and Nahki Wells to raise funds for new strikers at Turf Moor next season.

Vydra will certainly attract plenty of interest. In 2017/18 he was the Rams’ player of the year and Championship golden boot winner, just ahead of Reid at City.

But the Czech international forward has struggled at Turf Moor, making just three Premier League starts and only hitting two goals in 17 outings in all competitions.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche is said to be keen on Birmingham City's Che Adams and West Bromwich Albion's Jay Rodriguez as potential upgrades.
