Burnley target Leeds United goalkeeper as Aston Villa handed transfer boost - reports

Burnley are targeting a move for Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, according to reports.

Peacock-Farrell has spoken about his reluctance to spend next season as understudy to Kiko Casilla, having lost his place to the Spaniard in January.

The Northern Ireland ‘keeper made just one appearance for Leeds after Casilla’s arrival, despite starting the season as Marcelo Bielsa’s number one.

However, the Mirror have suggested that Sean Dyche will look to the 22-year-old to become the Burnley’s number two next season.

This is part of a goalkeeping reshuffle that will see Tom Heaton and Joe Hart leave this summer.

Having signed a new five year deal at the club, Nick Pope is expected to be the Clarets’ new number one.

Heaton has been the subject of interest from Aston Villa, who are also still pursuing Kalvin Phillips, and could leave if they meet Burnley’s asking price.

Hart is also free to leave after falling out of favour at Turf Moor, with a number of Championship clubs linked with a loan move.

That would create a vacancy for Peacock-Farrell, should be fancy a move to the Premier League.

Having already lost Jack Clarke and Pontus Jansson this summer, it’s unknown whether Bielsa would be prepared to let the academy graduate depart, with Casilla’s long-term future also still unclear.

Peacock-Farrell is entering the last year of his contract at Elland Road, although there are suggestions that the club are looking to open talks over a new deal.

Although a Premier League would, obviously, prove desirable for the Northern Ireland stopper, a move to Turf Moore is unlikely to offer him more first-team football.

Given the faith Bielsa has shown in the youngster to date, and his track record of nurturing young players, an extended stay at Elland Road could be best for his development.
