Burnley striker sends Liverpool warning to the rest of the Premier League

Burnley striker Ashley Barnes believes Liverpool will “take a lot of stopping” this season – and warned the rest of the Premier League the Reds are improving further.

Barnes had scored four goals in Burnley's opening three games but was shut out by Jurgen Klopp's side at Turf Moor on Saturday evening.

A 3-0 win continued Liverpool's 100% start to the Premier League campaign and set a club record of 13 straight league wins.

The first of that sequence was a 4-2 home win over Burnley in the last meeting between the sides in March.

And Barnes has recognised clear progress from the European champions.

“They are a better team than when we played them at the start of their winning run – but so are we, although the scoreline might not show that,” said the 29-year-old. “We just gave away goals too easily.

“Their first goal was a freak, the second came from our mistake, and the third came when we were pressing to try to get something out of the game and lost our shape. It was a tough afternoon for us.

“We had a couple of chances, and you have to take those against the top teams, or they will make you pay for it.

“But you have to give them credit for how clinical hey were for their second and third goals. That is what Liverpool can do to you – they punish teams because they are so quick on the counter-attack, and so good when they get a sniff of goal..

“You can see their quality all over the park, and they are still growing, aren’t they. They are going to take a lot of stopping.”
