Burnley manager Sean Dyche fumes at diving rules following Arsenal defeat

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has insisted that the current rules on diving are not adequate enough to stamp it out of the game.

The Clarets' boss was talking after seeing his side fall to a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Gunners' first home game of the season.

Alexandre Lacazette's opened the scoring after he managed to squeeze a shot past Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope, but Ashley Barnes equalised just two minutes before half time.

But Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's second goal in two games, and his seventh against Burnley, mean that Arsenal took all three points from the game to maintain their 100% Premier League record.

While there was no clear incident of diving taking place during the match, Dyche used his post match interviews to give his thoughts on the punishment for trying to deceive an official.

"Simple. Ban them. It would be out of football within a month," the Burnley boss told Match of the Day.

"It's not about Arsenal. It's about the greater good of the game."

"Have you ever thought about that? I don't know any sport where they tell you that you can cheat once a game. I've never seen that in sport before.

"The game is in a really poor state with players literally falling on the floor. If you're a manager, why would you want to lose your best players? It's got to the level where it's every week now."

"I'm the only one who ever talks about it. I find that really weird.

"Tony Adams, when he was captain here (at Arsenal). Can you imagine? Do you think he would have accepted it? Do you think he would have accepted it if it was his own players, let alone the opposition? I doubt it."

Currently, players can be banned should they have been deemed to have 'successfully deceived an official', but the ban only comes into play should the player have gained an advantage by diving, e.g winning a penalty. Should a yellow card be given for diving, the player will receive no further punishment.
