Former NFL and NSWL stars JJ and Kealia Watt hope to use Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham experience as inspiration at Burnley after investing in the club.
The couple have announced an investment in Vincent Kompany's side following their promotion to the Premier League. JJ Watt, who represented the Houston Texans and the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL, and wife Kealia, a former forward for Houston Dash, Chicago Red Stars the US national team, admitted the Welcome to Wrexham documentary acted as something of an inspiration.
The duo have spoken to both McElhenney and Reynolds and, speaking to Sky Sports, Kealia said of the Hollywood actors: "Definitely [they have inspired us].

"We watched the documentary a couple of months ago and it was so cool to see what they’ve done. That’s kind of what we’re modelling this after. They’re just incredible. Wrexham are such a fun team and we’ve followed that."
JJ added: "I’ve spoken to Rob about his experience and tried to gain some insight into what he’s done and I’ve spoken to Ryan and tried to get his ideas and what’s worked and what hasn’t. Obviously they’re in a different league and a different situation with what Wrexham are doing but they’ve done an incredible job."
McElhenney and Reynolds' Red Dragons gained promotion back to the Football League this season and ended their campaign on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Torquay United. As for Burnley, the sporting couple have set out their vision for the club.
"When you invest in a club that’s been around since 1882, you must have great respect for its history and tradition," the pair said. "We understand that not only are we investing in the squad and manager, we’re investing in the town and its people. We take that responsibility very seriously and intend to work hard in earning their trust and support. We believe that Burnley is a special club with incredible supporters and we want to help continue to elevate its global profile on its return to the Premier League."
