Burnley in talks to sign Swansea City star Connor Roberts as transfer deadline looms

Burnley are nearing the signing of Swansea City defender Connor Roberts, WalesOnline understands.

The right back was one of the Swans' standout players in the Championship last term and interest from the top flight seemed almost inevitable.

However, the Wales international has been sidelined since injuring his groin during Wales' 4-0 Euro 2020 last-16 defeat by Denmark in June.

Having undergone surgery in the summer, Roberts has been unable to feature for Swansea City and missed out on selection for Wales' upcoming matches against Finland, Belarus and Estonia.

But ahead of the Swans' Championship clash with Preston North End last weekend, the 25-year-old returned to training.

It could transpire, though, that Roberts has played his final game for the Swansea.com Stadium outfit, with Burnley and Swansea in talks over a move before Tuesday's 11pm transfer deadline.

Swans boss Russell Martin confirmed that Roberts is back training on grass as he steps up his recovery, but it was thought he would not be fit enough to feature until the end of September.

Roberts, an academy product of the SA1 club having joined at the age of nine, has been a stellar servant for Swansea, having clocked up more than 150 appearances since making his debut in January 2018, scoring 11 goals and providing 15 assists in that time.

Martin is anticipating a chaotic final few days of the window and should Roberts' move to Turf Moor go through, that will doubtless be another area he will have to address before Tuesday night's deadline.

"We're going to be working hard, and hopefully we'll have something to announce by the end of it," he said.

"The guys just need a little bit of help in a few areas. We've been working really hard to try and add people so we'll just have to wait and see.

"I know a couple of positions I'd like to add some quality in but I'll tell you if I'm happy after Tuesday.

"Things change very quickly in the transfer window. We have three days of chaos I'm sure in a market that's been really slow and will probably come to life.

"But we're ready for any bids for our players and we're also ready to go with ones we're looking to add."
