Burnley hold talks with Bristol City over £7m deal for Josh Brownhill - report

Burnley have reportedly held talks with Bristol City over a £7m deal for Josh Brownhill.

The Robins captain has long been linked with the Premier League side, who are keen to strengthen their midfield this month.

Yet, with Brownhill understood to be happy at Ashton Gate and with a contract that runs until at least 2021, the Robins are under no pressure to sell - hence the figure of £7m being reported by the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old has been a mainstay in the Robins' side this season with five goals and two assists from 26 matches - his versatility and ability to play both in the middle and on the right of midfield has seen him become a key figure for City.

Yet his form has fluctuated recently, and he missed yesterday's win at Wigan Athletic - the first league fixture he has missed for the Robins since November 2018.

Brownhill joined City from Preston North End in 2016 and has become a popular figure at the club.

Premier League Burnley are in a dreadful run of form that has seen them slip to just four points above the relegation zone.

They have also been recently linked with Robins star Niclas Eliasson.

Manager Sean Dyche wants to freshen up his midfield, and has also been linked with Chelsea's Conor Gallagher, who is set to be recalled from his loan at Charlton Athletic following good form.
