Burnley fans have their say on Chris Wood transfer with striker set for Newcastle United

Newcastle United look set to complete their second January signing with Burnley striker Chris Wood on the verge of joining the club.

The 30-year-old travelled north last night to undergo a medical at the club.

The Magpies have been intent on signing a striker since the beginning of the January window following Callum Wilson’s injury blow against Manchester United last month.

Wood has hit double figures for goals in each of his four seasons at Burnley but has struggled to replicate the form so far this term.

He has found the net just three times in 17 matches, but Eddie Howe will be hoping he can re-find his goal scoring prowess upon the completion of his move to St. James’ Park.

Here is how Burnley fans have reacted to the news of their number nine’s departure.

@RyanSeaton13: “Can’t imagine Dyche being happy with this, deffo the change we need though.”

@Natalie_Bromley: “Cute that we all think we’re going to bring a striker in to replace Wood who Newcastle a) haven’t already looked at and b) haven’t already outbid us for…”

@claretdora: “Time for change, no finer place to start than with the miss firing strikers!”

@HusbandHarvey: “Apparently £20m was his release clause. £20m for a 30-year-old who’s out of form isn’t bad but there needs to be a replacement otherwise we look stupid.”

@p_d_bukes: “Everyone at Burnley must be resigned to relegation now, can see many players asking their agents to ‘get them out of here’. Sad.”

@M_Warrener: “If this money isn’t directly used on a replacement, then it maybe League One in a couple of years. Options must be out there.”

@Cursong74: “One has to question who sanctioned such a low release clause after consistently getting double figures in the Prem since he signed for us. It truly beggars belief they thought that £20m would be a suitable fee.”

@Chr1sbeck1: “Don’t worry… he’ll be offside when he signs for them so transfer won’t go through.”

@Splatsimpson: “Might as well give up on supporting them this season. Looks like the club has given up trying to stay up so why should the fans bother?”
