Xherdan Shaqiri is edging closer to a move away from Anfield this summer with French side Lyon the club most interested in the attacking midfielder.
The Echo understands the two clubs were some way apart in their valuation of the player, with Liverpool unlikely to let Shaqiri leave on the cheap.
The Reds are determined to recoup the he £12million they paid to take Shaqiri from Stoke City three years ago.
It is understood that Lyon's offer for the 29-year-old fell well short of Liverpool's asking price, but recent updates could pave the way for Shaqiri's exit.
According to The Athletic, Premier League side Burnley have made an offer in the region of £13.5 million for Lyon left-back Maxwel Cornet.

Lyon have granted the club permission to speak to the player as they have made the best bid for the 24-year-old so far this summer.
It is believed Sean Dyche's side will hold discussions with Cornet this weekend as they look to agree personal terms ahead of a potential move.
This would be Burnley's third signing so far this window as they've already signed Nathan Collins and Wayne Hennessey.
Cornet joined Lyon in January 2015 and after over six years with the club, his departure could free up funds for Lyon to make an improved offer for Shaqiri in the coming weeks.
Rumours from France earlier this week suggest the Swiss international has already agreed terms, despite a fee not being agreed with Liverpool.
Shaqiri has made 63 first team appearances since his arrival in 2018 and scored eight goals and registered nine assists in that time.
The player has already made his desire to leave the club known as he said in an interview with Football Italia earlier this summer: "My contract [with] Liverpool expires in 2022, in 2018 I signed a four-year deal.
“This is why I told Liverpool that I feel ready for a new challenge. They accepted my wish and will seriously consider the offers that will come. They will not stop me.
“I’m only 29 years old, I have played in some of the best leagues in Europe and I would like to continue being a part of them.”
Lazio, Sevilla, Napoli and Villarreal have all been credited with interest in Shaqiri, but Lyon remain in pole position to land his signature before the window slams shut later this month.
