Burnley confirm Danny Drinkwater transfer update amid Aston Villa links to Chelsea midfielder

Danny Drinkwater will return to Chelsea this month as his loan spell with Burnley has been cut short, it has been revealed.

The former Leicester City title winner has endured a rough time since making the switch from the Foxes to Stamford Bridge two years ago.

The 29-year-old has only featured once for the Clarets in the Premier League this season whilst on loan and now Sean Dyche has confirmed the midfielder will go back to Chelsea.

Drinkwater signed for Chelsea back in 2017 on a five-year contract for a £35 million fee from Leicester.

He has failed to live up to expectations and is expected to be loaned out once again this month, with Aston Villa reportedly interested in his services.

Dyche revealed the news in a press conference today ahead of this side's FA Cup third round tie against Peterborough tomorrow afternoon.

Burnley subsequently tweeted confirmation of the story.
