Burnley confirm coronavirus cases five days before Manchester United fixture

Burnley manager Sean Dyche confirmed that the club has been impacted by positive COVID-19 tests, ahead of their clash with Manchester United next week.

Speaking prior to the Clarets' FA Cup tie with MK Dons this weekend, Dyche confirmed that there has been a 'couple' of positive tests within the club.

United are set to play Burnley on Tuesday, January 12, in a game which was originally scheduled for the opening weekend of the season but pushed back in order to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side extra rest following their run to the Europa League semi-final in the previous campaign.

A win at Turf Moor would see United go three points ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League, just a few days before the two teams face off at Anfield.

There is no suggestion as of yet that the game will have to be postponed again, with Dyche believing that the club will, for the moment at least, be able to fulfil the coming weekend's fixture.

"We have got a couple of cases that will effect us,” said Dyche said. “We have some at the moment and we are having to be wise and re-pod the players.

“The worry for us across the sport is the knock-on effect. We have a couple of cases, which could affect us over the next few days.

“It’s a tough challenge for all, so we’re having to be wise and push the rules as hard as we can, to stop any future cases.”

When asked if the FA Cup tie was in doubt, Dyche, added: “At this stage I think we will be fulfilling it, we will be able to go beyond 14. Certainly today.”
