Burnley boss Sean Dyche lauds 'brave' referee and tells Cardiff City he got penalty decision RIGHT

Burnley boss Sean Dyche lauded referee Mike Dean for "brave" officiating to reverse the penalty decision that denied Cardiff City at Turf Moor.

The Bluebirds were awarded a spot-kick by the assistant referee early in the second half for an apparent Ben Mee handball - but Dean overturned the decision after consulting the linesman.

The decision left Cardiff boss Neil Warnock and the visiting players enraged , but Dyche believed it was the right call.

"I wasn't happy at first because the linesman gave the penalty from 70 yards away and you can't give penalties from 70 yards away," he said.

"And I think the referee has officiated that moment really well.

"I've looked at it back and it hits Ben Mee in the face and slid down his arm.

"For me, there's no chance it can be a penalty and it's very brave by the way."

Dyche added that he'd not spoken to Warnock about the incident, but joked that he knew the Cardiff boss won't be happy.

Bluebirds fans booed the officials at the final whistle - which came courtesy of two Chris Wood goals - that leaves them five points adrift of safety.

"We've had enough go against us - I know Cardiff have as well," said Dyche.
