Burnley agree deal to sign Michael Obafemi as Swansea City's transfer window comes to life

Burnley have agreed a deal with Swansea City to sign Michael Obafemi.

The Clarets have been firm admirers of the striker for some time but were unable to recruit the forward in the summer after having a number of offers rejected by the Swans.

They had a pair of bids knocked back by Russell Martin's side earlier this month, although they are now edging closer to taking Obafemi to Turf Moor after meeting the Swans' valuation of the player, WalesOnline understands.

He will join Burnley on an initial loan deal, with the move set to be made permanent in the summer.

Vincent Kompany has been determined to bolster his attacking options this month, despite the fact his side are top of the Championship table and have an 18-point buffer over third-placed Watford.

On Wednesday, the Lancashire outfit brought in South Africa international Lyle Foster from Belgian outfit Westerlo.

And his swoop for Obafemi could pave the way for Swansea to finally bring in some fresh recruits following what has been a largely uneventful window thus far.

Armstrong Oko-Flex and Fin Stevens were recalled by West Ham United and Brentford respectively early on, while Nathanael Ogbeta and Brandon Cooper have secured loan moves to Peterborough United and Forest Green Rovers respectively.

Elsewhere, Jordon Garrick was recalled from his loan spell with Lincoln City before being sold to Forest Green Rovers, with Morgan Whittaker being the only player to come in to the club following his recall from Plymouth Argyle.

Martin is eager to add a new striker to his ranks before Tuesday's 11pm transfer deadline while the club are also exploring the option of signing a right-sided defender and a goalkeeper.

Obafemi - who joined for a fee in the region of £1.5m from Southampton in the summer of 2021 - is set to leave Swansea having scored 15 goals in 52 appearances for the club.

Whittaker continues to attract interest from Rangers and could leave in the final days of the winter window while Jamie Paterson is also free to find a new club.
