Burnley 1-2 West Ham: Michail Antonio double keeps Hammers’ top-four hopes alive

Michail Antonio scored twice upon his return to action to down Burnley and keep West Ham’s top-four hopes alive.

A strong start from the visitors was undone when Tomas Soucek fouled Chris Wood inside the area and the in-form striker brushed himself down to open the scoring.

But their lead lasted just two minutes as Antonio headed home Vladmir Coufal’s superb cross before ghosting through the Burnley defence to poke him a Said Benrahma cross.

West Ham’s 17th league win of the season - a club record in the Premier League era - moved them to within three points of the top four as they recovered from back-to-back defeats against Newcastle and Chelsea.

David Moyes’ side made the trip north having lost four of their last eight in the league - as many as they had lost in the previous 23 - and at risk of seeing a promising season unravel.

But Antonio’s return, after a month out, and the performance of Benrahma will lift hopes of a possible top-four finish with four games to play and Declan Rice nearing a return.
