Burned out van found dumped in the river and leaking oil at beauty spot

A burnt-out van which was leaking oil into a river was found dumped at a Welsh beauty spot.

Shocking images show the full extent of the damage caused to the vehicle which was found in the river in Heol Y Felin in Hendy, near Pontarddulais, last week.

South Wales Police have confirmed that it is investigating the theft of a van.

One resident, who asked not to be named said that the incident was reported to police and was later removed.

She said: "My neighbour found the van and she phoned me to tell me about it. I then took photos.

"It was really sad to see, it’s somewhere a lot of local people walk and it’s the second time in a few weeks people have dumped things down there and set fire to it.

"The van was leaking fuel or oil into the river too which is concerning."

A spokeswoman for the force said: "South Wales Police is investigating the theft of a Ford Transit van, which was taken from Golwg Y Twr, Swansea.

"The vehicle is believed to have been taken overnight between Monday, February 10, and Tuesday, February 11. It was later found abandoned and destroyed."

Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area, or who has any information regarding the theft should contact 101, quoting occurrence 2000051810.
