Burn bursts its banks in Falkirk leaving cars trapped in flood

Heavy rain caused a burn to burst it’s banks in Falkirk today trapping cars in a foot of water.

A downpour just before 1pm caused Polmont Burn, which is situated at the back of the Brewer’s Fayre, Cadger’s Brae, between Polmont and Grangemouth, to overflow and flood the restaurant’s car park.

Cars belonging to customers who had stopped to dine at the pub were left surrounded in deep water in the car park outside.

No-one was injured in the flash flood and employees were able to stop the water from entering the building before it reached their doors.

A Fire and Rescue team attended to the scene and pumped water out of the carpark and back into the burn.

An employee of Cadger’s Brae said: “The rain started and then just after 1pm the burn burst it’s banks.

“We managed to get customers out safely and quickly and also stopped the weather from coming in.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service confirmed their attendance and were still on the scene at 7pm this evening as the crew worked to drain the water.

The Met Office and SEPA both issued a weather warning for Scotland saying potential downpours and thunderstorms were expected.
