Burley Road crash sees buses diverted and drivers stuck in mile long queues

Motorists are stuck in long queues and buses are being diverted after a crash has closed a major road in Leeds.

Burley Road near the city centre has been closed after a crash involving a bus and a motorbike at the junction with Cardigan Road.

A man in his twenties, the motorbike rider, has been rushed to hospital.

Buses are being diverted and cars are stuck in mile-long queues along Burley Road as emergency services work at the scene.

First West Yorkshire services 19/19A, 49,50 and 50A are all diverting around the scene.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police were called at 2.46pm today (Tuesday) to a report of a collision involving a bus and a motorcycle at the junction of Burley Road and Cardigan Road. Leeds.

"The motorcycle rider, a man in his twenties, has been taken to hospital for further treatment.

"Enquiries are continuing at the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area while these are ongoing."

The queues on Burley Road stretch all the way back to its junction with Park Lane as motorists attempt to get around the closure.

It is causing major queues and delays in the area.

The severity of any injuries are not yet known.
