Burley Banksy transforming street with huge Leeds United mural

The Burley Banksy, famous for splashing the white, yellow and blue of Leeds United on streets across the city, is back at it again!

While Leeds continues to bask in the glory of promotion to the Premier League, a building in the Wortley area of Leeds is being transformed to commemorate this year's title winning season.

But that's not the only reason why Andy McVeigh and fellow street artist Nick Dixon are painting it. The mural is just a stones throw from the threatened T.V Harrison sports ground, once the home of Leeds City Boys.

It remains derelict and unused, but has been earmarked for 61 new homes as part of ambitious plans from Leeds City Council. And many members of the community in Wortley are not happy about it.

The pitches there were once graced by the likes of Paul Madeley, David Batty and Noel Whelan, all going on to play for Leeds United. It was once a breeding ground for future stars of the game, and so a petition was launched to save the ground - bought by Thomas Vernon Harrison in 1931.

Locals want the land to be retained for sports pitches and restored for the wider community to benefit.

Burley Banks said: “Me and Nick Dixon have started a big #lufc / TV Harrison football pitch mural next to Wortley Asda. It may feature our favourite Argentinian soup - receiver. More soon.”

The petition which has more than 2,000 signatures can be found here .
