'Burley Banksy' offers to meet vandals that defaced his Leeds United artwork

The man popularly known as the 'Burley Banksy' has offered to meet up with those that vandalised his Leeds United artwork in Beeston.

Andy McVeigh paints telecommunications boxes and bollards in his spare time, with his Leeds United artwork in the area surrounding Elland Road proving particularly popular.

After much of McVeigh's work was defaced, including a tribute to the late Gary Speed, an anonymous message was sent by 'Leeds Residents Against Graffiti' claiming responsibility - the message claimed that a group of four people were responsible.

They claimed that they would ruin all of the artwork related to the football club, much to the annoyance of McVeigh and the supportive fans of Leeds United.

Now, McVeigh has offered to meet up with the graffiti group.

Speaking on Twitter, he said: "Dear Leeds Residents Against Graffiti, I'm very happy to meet up to discuss any non #lufc art you'd like me to do in Beeston /Holbeck & would've been glad to do this before, if only you'd asked. I've taught often in Beeston & am very fond of the kids & area. Love, Burley Banksy."

Speaking to LeedsLive after the incident, McVeigh had shared his disbelief that anyone would want to vandalise his art.

He said: "I'm so speechless really, I think they've done all of them along Elland Road. I daren't even go down and look at them as I'll get too upset at them.

"They're going to ruin the rest of them now, aren't they. They're going to paint over the bollards, I've done loads on Gelderd Road that have just taken me hours and hours and hours."
