Buriram take on Chiang Rai as T1 resumes

Leaders Buriram United face a tricky assignment at home to Chiang Rai United when Thai League 1 resumes today.

Buriram, who played a couple of warm-up games during the one-month break for the Asian Games, are nine points ahead of True Bangkok United with eight matches left and looking forward to the action.

Assistant manager Sirichai Kimotosaid said the Thunder Castle are pumped for the games. "With eight games left, we want to be leaders until the end of the season,'' he said.

"We are hopeful of getting three points against Chiang Rai United."

The champions will be at full strength for the match with none of the players either suspended or injured.

Spearheaded by Brazilian striker Diogo Luis Santo, Buriram are chasing a sweep of three domestic titles as they are in the semi-finals of both the FA Cup and League Cup.

True Bangkok United must beat Bangkok Glass at home to keep alive their slim hopes of winning the title for the first time in their history.

Bangkok United assistant coach Watsapol Kaewpaluek said: "It will not be an easy game for us as Bangkok Glass are a strong team. It may be difficult for us to overtake Buriram but at least we must finish second."

Although Bangkok Glass are currently 11th in the 18-team league, they are just three points above the five-team relegation zone.

Bangkok Glass manager Amnaj Kaewkew said the Rabbits must do well for survival.

"We were in the relegation zone earlier in the season and we don't want to be there again. We must try hard to remain in the top flight," he said.

Bangkok Glass have never won at Bangkok United and Amnaj hopes his players will finally end the record today.

SCG Muang Thong United host Chonburi in a meeting of two falling giants.

Muang Thong are fourth -- 18 points behind Buriram -- and Chonburi stay 10th.

Muang Thong assistant manager Chaiyakorn Chomchuen said the team worked very hard during the break.

Wattana Playnum is suspended but the Kirins welcome back Adisak Kraisorn from injury. "We want three points from this game," Chaiyakorn said.

Chonburi have a long list of injured players including Chanin Sae-ear and Tanachai Noorat.

Saharat Sonthisawat is suspended while Worachit Kanitsribumphen needs a late fitness test.

In another interesting game, fifth-placed PT Prachuab host fellow surprise package Port who are third.
