A couple of goalmouth blunders last night ended PT Prachuap's unbeaten run and gave Buriram a 2-0 victory -- the defending champions' first three-point haul in Thai League 1 this season.
A poor clearance following a corner by Prachuap defender Sompob Nilwong paved the way for Modibo Maiga to claim the first goal in the 75th minute.
Young midfielder Supachoke Sarachart produced the second seven minutes later with an angular left-footed shot that could have been warded off with ease by Prachuap goalkeeper Nattapong Khajohnmalee.
Buriram United coach Bozidar Bandovic was a relieved man after the match as the win eased pressure on him.
Buriram also dashed Prachuap's hopes of reclaiming the top spot from joint leaders Port and Bangkok United.
Prachuap's first loss of the season has plummeted the southern side to fifth place with six points from three matches, but they trail the leaders by only one point. Buriram improved to sixth with five points.
However, Prachuap were not alone as Samut Prakarn City also missed their chance of taking over the No.1 spot, losing 2-1 at PTT Rayong last night.
Hosts Sukhothai and Suphanburi played to a 1-1 draw. Kabfah Boonmatoon gave the home team the lead in 24th minute, but Cleiton Silva equalised for Suphanburi through a penalty shortly before the half-time whistle.
In Saturday night's late game at Khao Plong Stadium, hosts Chainat had to settle for one point after a 1-1 tie with Chiang Rai United.
