Buriram impress, Port ride their luck to hold Sukhothai

Sukhothai's Nelson Bonilla, right, shields the ball from Port's Elias Dolah.

While Thai League 1 leaders Buriram United boosted their title hopes with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Navy late on Saturday, third-place Port saw their three-game winning streak come to an end after a 2-2 draw against 10-man Sukhothai on Sunday night.

Buriram's third straight triumph in the league helped the defending champions widen the gap at the top to sevens points.

Prolific Brazilian Diogo Luis Santo was once again the star performer for the Thunder Castle, scoring a hat-trick. Pansa Hemviboon netted their fourth in the 66th minute.

Hosts Port failed to get the better of Sukhothai, who played the entire second half with 10 men after goalkeeper Pairot Eiammak was sent off for a foul confirmed by the VAR.

However that wasn't the end of Sukhothai's misfortunes. First Nelson Bonilla's fourth-minute strike was cancelled out by an own goal by Sakdarin Mingsamorn and then, after Bonilla had restored their advantage by converting an 88th-minute penalty, Sivakorn Jakkuprasart grabbed the equaliser for the home team in the injury time.

In other matches last night, Police Tero suffered a 3-1 loss away at Chonburi, Chainat beat bottom-placed Air Force Central 2-0 and Chiang Rai United edged Suphanburi 2-1.
