Buri Ram logs 495 new Covid infections, mostly returnees

BURI RAM: The provincial public health office's emergency response centre on Tuesday reported a record 495 new Covid-19 infections in one day.

The office said 479 caught the disease outside the province and 16 were loally infected.

The accumulated number of infections was 7,359, of whom 1,026 had recovered, 6,321 were still under treatment at various hospitals in the province and 12 had died.

The province has launched a "bring Buri Ram children home for treatment"  programme - a collaboration between the provincial communicable disease committee and the Buriram Football Clubm and public and private organisations.

Buri Ram people elsewhere who are infected with Covid-19 and wish to be brought home for treatment can call 02-576-5555. Transport is arranged for their return trip.

Since the launch of programme on July 12, a total of 1,171 had called for the service and 701 had already been brought back to their home districts for treatment, the announcement said.
