ฺBURI RAM: A man and woman have been arrested in Krasang district for a series of motorcycle thefts, with the stolen machines being offered for sale online as "second-hand", police said.

Pattana Waedsa, 28, and Wipaporn Plianchanthek, 31, were detained after an investigation into a rash of thefts reported in six districts in Buri Ram and Surin.

None of the motorcycles were new, and all were stolen from remote areas such as rice fields.

Inquiries led officers to an online shop offering "second-hand" motorcycles for sale, with prices ranging between 3,000-6,000 baht. Police set up a sting operation, resulting in the arrest of the two suspects..

Found in their possession were seven motorcycles, all reported stolen, a pickup truck, cutting tools, a homemade gun, some bullets and six methamphetamine pills.

According to police, the couple drove around in the pickup looking for not-so-new motorcycles left unattended. They loaded the the bikes onto the truck and drove off with them.

The couple allegedly had their friends post pictures of the stolen motorcycles on Facebook, offering them for sale.

They face a number of charges, including theft, illegal possession of a firearm and drug use.

Police said the couple were also wanted on an arrest warrant in connection with a snatch-and-run in early 2015.
