Buri Ram airport expected to reopen on Tuesday

Buri Ram airport will likely reopen on Tuesday after a Nok Air plan is repaired and moved from its only runway, airport general manager Sommai Chainit said on Monday.

Mr Sommai said the Bombardier Q400NextGen twin jet prop is being repaired and the aircraft could be hauled from the runway by 9pm, clearing the way for normal operations on Tuesday.

Hydraulic fluid was found leaking from the aircraft as it was preparing for take-off. The problem forced the airport to close all day on Monday since the airport has only one runway, he added.

Passengers were diverted to use Roi Et airport on Monday.

The closure forced the charter flight of Guangzhou Evergrande football players and staff to land in Roi Et. The passengers then took buses to Buri Ram.

The Chinese Super League giants are scheduled to play the Thai League 1 leaders in an AFC Champions League game in Buri Ram on Tuesday.
