Burglary gang who posed as workmen to enter the homes of the elderly and steal valuables jailed

Four men who posed as workmen to burgle the homes of the elderly have been jailed following an investigation.

Over the course of 22 months, the gang stole almost £40,000 worth of jewellery across locations in north and west London.

All four appeared at Harrow Crown Court on April 4 after pleading guilty to commit burglary.

John Casey, 43, of Kingfisher Lane, Billingshurst, was sentenced to eight years and six months’ imprisonment; Michael Casey, 47, also of Kingfisher Lane was sentenced to seven years and nine months; Martin Moloney, 42, of North Road, West Drayton five years and four months; and Sean McGoldrick, 50, of Pinewood Road, Iver was sentenced to six years and six months’ imprisonment.

The four were finally snared in a pub in Cricklewood by the Met’s flying squad after committing 22 burglaries between January 17 and March 29, 2022.

Detective superintendent Simon Moring, from the Met’s Central Specialist Crime - flying squad, said: “This investigation focused on a prolific team of burglars who specifically targeted the elderly and vulnerable.

“They posed as legitimate workmen, enabling them to enter the homes of their victims. Some of the property they stole had sentimental value and is irreplaceable.”

In every case, the gang would enter a home of an elderly occupier to talk about plumbing issues at the property.

The conversation would allow one of the gang to then steal watches, cash, jewellery and gold from the home.

On March 9, 2022, the Caseys and Maloney were arrested after being witnessed by police entering an address.

McGoldrick was arrested a few days later.

In total, the gang stole £39,695 of jewellery including engagement rings and priceless family heirlooms.

One burglary of a home totalled £23,720 of the almost £40,000 stolen.
