The burglars forced open doors and deceived homeowners to gain entry to their residences, according to Chicago police.
A pair of recent burglaries in the North Park area prompted a community alert Thursday from Chicago police, warning residents on the Northwest Side to secure their doors and windows.
In one incident, the burglars forced open the front door of a home and took property before fleeing, according to the community alert. In the other, one burglar knocked on the front door and told the homeowner that he was there to trim the trees. The homeowner led him into the backyard while a second thief snuck inside and took property.
The two incidents occurred:
- At 4:30 p.m., May 17 in the 5800 block of North Spaulding Avenue; and
- Between 5:15 p.m. and 6 p.m., May 21 in the 6100 block of North Drake Avenue.
Police said one to three males may be involved, describing one as being about 40 years old. In the incident on Spaulding, a witness reported seeing two males — one 5-feet and the other 5-foot-3 — wearing baseball hats and carrying walkie-talkies get into a light blue minivan driven by another male.
