Burglars target garages in West Rogers Park

Feb. 05--A series of garage burglaries hit West Rogers Park neighborhood on the Far North Side in late January, police said.

Four burglaries occurred between Jan. 17 and Jan. 21, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department's Office of News Affairs.

In most cases, burglars forcibly entered garages by either prying or kicking open the doors and stealing property.

Two incidents happened in the 2200 block of West Lunt Avenue. One burglary occurred at about 11 a.m. on Jan. 21, and the second incident took place overnight between 6 p.m. on Jan. 19 and 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 20, according to the statement.

The suspect in the burglaries on Lunt is a male of black or Hispanic race with short beard stubble, according to the statement.

A third garage was burglarized in the 2100 block of West Farwell Avenue between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Jan. 21, and the first burglary happened in 2400 block of West Farwell Avenue between 9:40 a.m. on Jan. 17 and 4 p.m. on Jan. 18.

Police urge residents to watch out for suspicious people and activity in the area and alert neighbors about the recent burglaries.

Residents should also consider installing a camera security system.

Anyone with information about the four burglaries should contact Area North detectives at 312-747-8263.
