Burglar who was on the run from police for nine months jailed for two years

A man has been jailed following two burglaries in Greater Manchester.

Liam Farnworth, 22, has been sentenced to two years and four months in jail, after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary at Bolton Crown Court.

It follows Farnworth breaking into homes in Bolton and Tameside.

Bolton Crown Court heard that Farnworth, of Frenchwood Street, Preston, first targeted a house in Mottram Road, Hyde.

The homeowner had left on January 17 2020 and upon returning three days later, she found that electrical goods including a laptop and phone, jewellery, and multiple other items had all been stolen.

Some of the items were described as 'irreplaceable' by the victim.

She later discovered a blood stain on a duvet cover and the DNA was found to match that of Farnworth.

A warrant was put out for Farnworth's arrest following the burglary but seven months later he struck again.

On August 13, Farnworth's second victim was upstairs in his property on Lever Park Avenue, Horwich, when he heard a noise from downstairs and went to investigate.

As he entered his dining room, he was confronted by two men - including Farnworth - wearing balaclavas and searching through boxes of cutlery.

Farnworth and the other man were chased out of the home by the owner.

The homeowner later discovered that they had smashed their way in through the conservatory door. Blood samples obtained from the broken door matched that of Farnworth.

In October, Lancashire Police finally came across Farnworth on Skeffington Road, Preston and he was arrested.

Detective Constable Natalie Fairhurst of GMP's Tameside district said: "Farnworth believed he was above the law and could not only burgle multiple houses, but evade police detection. Thankfully he now has time to think about his actions from behind bars.

"GMP does not tolerate this sort of behaviour and I hope today's result serves as a reassurance to the community that we are committed to tackling this sort of criminal activity in their area."
