Burglar who targeted Lord Sugar's home and fled country ordered to pay him £173k

A burglar has been ordered to pay Lord Sugar compensation after targeting his home during a £1.2 million crime spree.

David Buisson, 50, is currently serving an eight-year sentence after admitting carrying out 11 raids.

The career criminal, who was arrested in the Costa del Sol, has been told to hand businessman Sugar, 72, compensation totalling £173,000.

Judge Ian Graham told Buisson that if he fails to pay the money within three months he will be jailed for a further four years.

Buisson stole mainly cash and jewellery from homes and businesses in Epping Forest and Canvey Island between December 2015 and June 2017.

Buisson, 50, was sentenced last year at Basildon Crown Court to eight years in prison (PA)

He targeted the Essex home of BBC Apprentice star sugar during this period.

Buisson, of Ongar, Essex, was arrested under a European Arrest Warrant in the Spanish town of Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol.

Police later discovered tools and items used for drilling and lock picking at addresses linked to him.

They also found a stolen drone and jewellery and evidence of Internet searches concerning the homes of his victims.

Buisson admitted 11 burglaries and two attempted burglaries and was sentenced last year at Basildon Crown Court.

He was brought back before the court today for a hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Callum Munday, prosecuting, said the burglar had made £1,270,379 from his crimes but only had £294,973 of assets.

Judge Graham ordered the confiscation of these assets and said compensation should be paid to eight victims.

Lord Sugar will receive £173,977.77.

Speaking after Buisson was jailed Detective Inspector Rob Staples said: "The detectives involved in this complex investigation left no stone unturned to identify and locate David Buisson to hold him to account for his part in these offences."
