Burglar who targeted County Durham pub snared within hours after social media appeal

A burglar who was caught within hours of a social media appeal has been locked up.

Rory Soley, 26, broke into The George pub, on Bondgate, Darlington, through an upstairs window in the early hours of July 18 and had stolen more than £2,000 in cash from a till drawer.

Darlington Police issued an appeal on August 11 to find the brazen burglar and thanks to information from the public, he was located and arrested by officers the following morning.

The break-in was captured on CCTV, and Soley was charged with burglary.

He admitted the offence and appeared before magistrates in Newton Aycliffe on August 13, who sentenced him to 12 week in prison.

He was also recalled to prison having been released midway through a previous sentence for robbery and assault.

Detective Sergeant Grace Holohan, from Darlington priority crime team, said: “We would like to thank the members of the public who came forward with information and helped us locate Soley so quickly after the appeal was issued.”
