Burglar targets garages in Oakland, Bronzeville: police

Police are warning residents about a series of garage burglaries this month in Bronzeville and Oakland on the South Side.

In each case, someone has pried open an overhead garage door and taken items from within the garage or inside parked vehicles, according to a community alert from Chicago police.

The break-ins occurred:

  • Between 6 p.m. Oct. 3 and 8 a.m. Oct. 4 in the 4300 block of South Champlain Avenue;
  • About 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in the 4200 block of South Ellis Avenue;
  • Between 9 p.m. Oct. 9 and 10:30 a.m. Oct. 10 in the 4200 block of South Ellis; and
  • About 3:45 a.m. Oct. 10 in the 4200 block of South Ellis.

The suspect was described as a 5-foot-7, 150-pound male between 17 and 30 years old, police said. He wore a black hat and a North Face jacket.
