Police are warning residents about an ongoing string of garage burglaries since September on the Near West Side.

In each case, someone entered condominium building garages and stole property from within, according to a community alert from Chicago police.

The most recent burglary happened between midnight Oct. 20 and 8:30 a.m. Oct. 21 in the 100 block of North Carpenter Street, police said. Another happened between 1 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Oct. 13 in the 1300 block of West Madison Street.

The suspect was described as a man between 45 and 55 years old standing 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 and weighing 160 to 180 pounds, police said.

Investigators believe the latest break-ins are related to a series of burglaries outlined in a community alert last month.

The burglaries were reported:

  • Between 6 p.m. Sept. 25 and 7 a.m. Sept. 26 in the 200 block of South Racine Avenue;
  • About 7 a.m. Sept. 28 in the 1200 block of West Madison;
  • About 7 a.m. Sept. 30 in the first block of South Throop Street; and
  • About 6:30 a.m. Oct. 5 in the first block of South Ashland Avenue.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
