Burglar stole from Newcastle nursing home while armed with a 'rounders bat'

A burglar has admitted stealing items from a Newcastle nursing home while in possession of a rounders bat.

Michael Riley burgled part of the Byker Hall Care Home on Allendale Road on December 10, 2020, and stole a TV, Hi-Fi, a DVD player and a coffee machine. Then, on June 13, last year, the 50-year-old stole a fan and a sewing machine from the same nursing home as well as attempting to carry out an attempted burglary while in possession of a "rounders bat".

Riley, of Morton Street, Newcastle, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday where he faced charges of burglary, possession of an offensive weapon, attempted burglary, and theft. He pleaded guilty to the charges during the afternoon hearing.
