A burglar broke into a Leeds city centre bar during lockdown to steal bottles of alcohol.
Edward Naylor, 35, stole bottles of alcohol and £70 from Below Stairs on South Parade on May 14 this year.
Leeds Crown Court heard glass panels had been removed from doors inside the bar and more than £1,000 worth of damage was caused to the premises.
Prosecutor Stephen Littlewood said Naylor tried to cover his tracks by taking the CCTV hard drive but he left a fingerprint on a glass panel.
Naylor was arrested three days later and taken to a police station where he was found to be in possession of Spice.
He claimed someone else had removed the glass panels from the doors and he merely took advantage of that.
Naylor, of Cedar Place, Armley, Leeds, pleaded guilty to burglary and possession of a class B drug.
He has previous convictions for burglaries, drug offences and possession of weapons.
Eddison Flint, mitigating, said that his client burgled Below Stairs at a time when he was homeless, struggling to stick to a prescription for a psychiatric illness and unable to earn money by begging in the city centre due to the lockdown.
Sentencing, Judge Neil Clark said 'taking advantage of lockdown' was an aggravating feature in terms of sentencing, adding:
"People should know it is not a free-for-all."
Naylor, who appeared in court via video link from Leeds prison, was jailed for a year.
