Burglar’s getaway attempt goes embarrassingly wrong after fight with door

A burglar’s attempt to flee the scene of the crime went embarrassingly wrong after he was unable to open a seemingly-locked door.

CCTV footage shared by Nottinghamshire Police on Monday (18 May) shows Jack Higgins, 34, kicking and pulling at a locked door at a student accommodation in Beeston, from where he had just stolen food and drinks items.

After numerous attempts to break down the door, he finally noticed the “push to release” button and managed to escape. He later returned to the reception area where he tried to steal a TV from the wall.

Higgins, of no fixed address, admitted five counts of burglary, assaulting an emergency worker, criminal damage, and a public order offence. On 12 May, he was jailed for three years.
