HYDERABAD: Muchu Ambedkar literally followed his dreams to build a fortune. But the 50-year-old burglar’s dream run ended on Friday after cops arrested him and seized booty worth Rs 1.3 crore accumulated in his over 30-year ‘career’. The stolen goods included 230 tolas of gold, 10 kg silver and Rs 18,000.
If cops were shocked to see the unsold stash, there was a bigger surprise awaiting when the man revealed how he amassed his wealth: God came in his dreams and guided him to the target house and city! Over the years, he said his dreams took him to various parts of AP and Telangana as well as other states.
In the field since 1991 and last arrested over a decade ago, Ambdekar’s luck finally ran out after cops found his fingerprints while probing a burglary complaint from an assistant director of mines & geology who had lost Rs 15,300 from his home in Vanasthalipuram. Cops also found CCTV footage of Ambedkar.
With Lady Luck deserting him completely, the same constables who had analysed the CCTV footage stumbled upon him on the road and realised he was their man based on his features and peculiar style of walk.
Detained, Ambedkar gave Vansalthalipuram cops the runaround for a while but finally broke under sustained interrogation.
He told cops that he kept everything he stole in his three-storied house in Guntur and sold something only if necessary. Usually, he would pledge stolen gold with finance companies and even get it back after making payments from stolen cash. The cops took him to his house in Guntur and recovered stolen stash.
