Burglar posing as NHS worker rifled through 78-year-old's wardrobe after invading her home

A burglar posing as an NHS worker invaded the home of a 78-year-old and rifled through her belongings during a frightening raid.

The attempted burglary took place in the Unsworth area on Monday afternoon, say Bury North police officers.

A man, believed to be around 30-years-old, posed as an NHS worker - dressing in a baseball cap and dark blue uniform, and carrying an ID badge and a stethoscope.

He knocked on the door of a bungalow and started a conversation with a 78-year-old woman, according to police.

The man, described as white and around six feet tall, then entered the property uninvited after asking to use the toilet.

The victim discovered the man searching the wardrobes in a bedroom at the bungalow.

When she challenged the fraudster, he made off with nothing.
