Burglar jailed after jewellery raid at house in Alderley Edge

A burglar who carried out a jewellery raid at a home in Alderley Edge has been jailed.

Philip Sharples, 41, stole a watch and a pair of earrings during the break-in at a property in the plush Cheshire village, popular with celebrities, back in April.

It was part of a crime spree which lasted until police caught up him and he was arrested in his hometown of Warrington last month.

He was handed a year behind bars by a judge at Liverpool Crown Court last week, on Thursday October 24, the Warrington Guardian reports.

Sharples, of Bardsley Avenue, admitted burglary, five counts of theft and assaulting an emergency services worker during an earlier hearing at Warrington Magistrates Court.

The court heard he also stole a number of bottles of wine, worth a total of £61.90, from the Co-op on Knutsford Road in Latchford on three days straight last month – including three thefts on Sunday, September 15.

His crime spree also saw him assault a police officer when he was arrested on Winwick Street in the town centre on Wednesday September 26.
