Burglar jailed after he broke into home while family were asleep

A burglar has been jailed after he snook into a home through an open window while a family were asleep.

Raqeeb Hussain, 30, of Pelham Road, Nottingham, was handed a 14 month jail sentence after he targeted the home in Aspley.

He pleaded guilty to one count of burglary at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, February 18.

Hussain had entered an open window of a house in Grassington Road overnight on Sunday, September 1 while the family slept upstairs.

He got away with a computer tablet and bottle of wine.

He was later arrested after officers found forensic evidence at the scene.

Detective Constable Tim Townsend, of Nottinghamshire Police's dedicated burglary team, said: "We welcome this conviction and sentence which sends out a positive message that Nottinghamshire Police treats burglary very seriously.

"Hussain was an opportunist thief and we now hope that his victims and the local community can get comfort from knowing that he is now behind bars.

"We take all burglaries incredibly seriously and will investigate to the best of our ability in order to uncover any evidence we can to link the offender to the scene.

"Clearly it is not acceptable to enter someone's home and steal from them but we kindly remind residents to double check that all windows and doors are locked before going out or going to bed."
