Burglar in masked gang who stole cars worth £100,000 from Nottingham dealership is jailed

A burglar in a gang of masked intruders who raided a car business and stole more than £100,000 worth of vehicles has been jailed.

Alan Jackson pleaded guilty to his role in the burglary at Sellcar UK, Daleside Road, Sneinton.

CCTV showed five masked crooks enter a site office after forcing open a door with a crowbar.

Keys for ten cars were taken from a key box, and a BMW, Mercedes and two Ford Focus cars were taken by the gang.

Two days later, on February 2, 2017, two more cars were stolen using keys from the first burglary, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

That evening Jackson drove away from police on patrol on Clifton Boulevard. He mounted a pavement, hit a kerb and railings outside a house.

He was arrested and on bail when he joined convicted burglar Darren Mee in stealing cars from outside a home, which had been burgled by Mee, in Leake Road, Gotham.

Neighbours tried to stop the pair getting into one of the vehicles, a Mercedes, but they "laughed at them as they drove away", said Joey Kwong, prosecuting.

Jackson, 41, of Broomhill Avenue, Ilkeston, was sentenced for burglary at Sellcar on January 31, 2017; theft and dangerous driving, receiving a total sentence of three years and a driving ban for three-and-half years.

Sentencing Jackson, Judge Stuart Rafferty QC said the burglary at Sellcar was planned and "a five-man job" and "you as one of the drivers". More than £109,000 worth of vehicles were stolen.

"You drove dangerously to escape arrest and linked up with Mee to steal more motor vehicles," said the judge.

"The graphic picture of you driving away in a stolen Mercedes laughing and telling people who were watching you to **** off. That really sums it all up."

Jackson was represented by Gregor Purcell, who said his client went back to associating with someone he offended with before.

Mee, represented by Claire Moran, said he had been taking heroin but was now receiving help.

Aged 41 and of no fixed address, he was not involved in the earlier burglary and theft from Sellcar.

He was sentenced for unrelated offences of handling stolen goods, fraud with stolen bank cards, theft of a licence plate and motor vehicles, two burglaries and assaulting a police officer.

He received a total of four years in prison and a four-year driving disqualification.
