'Burglar' found hiding under car by dog after breaking into house

A hapless 'burglar' was found hiding under a car by a police dog last night in Wirral after running away from a botched raid.

Two burglars had broken into a house in the Rock Ferry of Wirral in the early hours today (Sunday 27 June).

When disturbed by the owners of the property, the burglars attempted to assault them before running away in what turned out to be a short-lived getaway thanks to the detective skills of a specially-trained police dog.

Police responded to the incident and following a search of the area with police dog PD Yoko, the alleged burglar was tracked down in nearby street after unsuccessfully attempting to avoid detection by hiding under a car.

The other alleged burglar was spotted by police patrols after a further search and was also detained.

Posting about the incident on Twitter, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "After two burglars were disturbed in Rock Ferry overnight they attempted to assault the homeowners to make good their escape.

"They managed to get away, but not for long!

"PD Yoko found one male hiding under a car in a nearby street and the other was detained by patrols."
