Burglar caught on CCTV trying to break into games machine at popular Byker pub

A prolific burglar has been jailed after he raided a popular pub in Byker.

Lee Revis, 39, forced entry into Jackson's Bar on December 27 and was caught on CCTV ransacking the premises.

He first targeted the upstairs flat where he swiped bank cards and a haul of Second World War coins before he broke into the pub.

The footage showed him trying to break into one of the games machines before pushing it over.

The raid caused significant damage to both the games machine and the security system.

Revis, of Wilfred Street, Newcastle, was quickly identified by officers and arrested.

He admitted two counts of burglary and was jailed for 876 days, about two years and five months, at Newcastle Crown court on February 10.

Detective constable Stuart Taylor said: “Lee Revis is a prolific burglar who has been in and out of prison for a number of years.

“He has had access to support services that could steer him away from a life of crime but he has rejected the help offered to him.

“Instead he has turned to opportunistic thefts to get his hands on whatever money he could.

“On this occasion he has left empty handed but landed himself in prison for a significant period of time.

“We welcome this result and will continue to put people like Lee Revis before the courts so we can continue to keep members of our local community safe.”
