Burglar caught on CCTV trying to break into Fred Perry store in Cardiff

A hapless burglar who attempted to break into a Fred Perry shop in Cardiff was unsuccessful and was caught on CCTV.

Louis Mifsud, 40, was seen with a crowbar trying to force the door of the clothing store in the Hayes at around 3am on May 2 and was with unknown men.

After several attempts at opening the door he gave up and left the area on a bike but he was spotted by a police camera operator and they attended the scene.

Tthere was only minimal damage to the door but the value of the damage was unknown.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard the defendant was arrested at his home in Maria Street, Butetown, on May 5.

He was interviewed and gave no comment but later pleaded guilty to attempted burglary.

The court heard Mifsud had refused to leave his cell, having been remanded in custody for breaching a licence, and was not present at the hearing but his barrister Abhinav Mohindru asked the judge to give him credit for his early guilty pleas.

Judge Rhys Rowlands sentenced Mifsud to 32 weeks imprisonment.
