Burger King to launch first ever vegan chicken nuggets

Burger King has announced it will become the first ever fast-food restaurant to introduce vegan chicken nuggets onto their menu.

The fast-food chain has said their new vegan nuggets are made from soy and plant proteins, but are "made to taste and look exactly like their meat originals."

Available from tomorrow January 5, the new Vegan Nuggets arrive perfectly in time for anyone looking to cut down their meat consumption for Veganuary.

They are the latest addition to the fast-food chains rapidly developing plant-based menu which also consists of their Vegan Royale, which was launched in April 2021.

They also launched a Vegan Whopper back in January 2020.

The new plant-based additions have been developed by The Vegetarian Butcher and are Vegan Society certified.

Soco Nunez, Brand and Communications Director at Burger King UK said: “We are thrilled to be launching the new Vegan Nuggets to our UK restaurants tomorrow.

"After years of development, it’s great to be able to say we are the first fast-food restaurant to bring such a product to our customers, which delivers the same tasting experience as its meat counterpart!”

It comes after years of development to become the first fast-food chain to offer a vegan alternative to chicken nuggets on their menu.

Many other fast-food companies have been developing their plant-based menus in response to more customers wanting to cut down their meat consumption.

While Burger King and other fast-food chains have been launching plant-based burgers onto their menus, they will be the first to branch into chicken nuggets.

The Vegan Society Marketing Manager Ericka Durgahee has said of the new addition: “The Vegan Trademark Team are so pleased to see Burger King releasing more vegan options as promised.

The nuggets are set to be a hit already, I can’t wait to try them out this Veganuary! Thank you for working with us developing verified vegan items for everyone.”

Lauren Iliffe from The Vegetarian Butcher said: "We defy anyone to tell the difference between our version and the original!”

Burger King's Vegan Nuggets will be available in stores nationwide from tomorrow, Wednesday January 5.
