Burger King offering free meals if you return kids' unwanted plastic toys

Burger King has come up with a novel way of recycling plastic from the thousands of toys given away with fast food kids' meals.

The restaurant is offering free Burger King Junior Meals to customers who return plastic toys which were given away with previous Burger King meals, and even giveaway toys supplied by rival fast food firms, magazines and cereal companies.

All customers have to do is show their toy at the counter between September 19 and September 30 to get a free Junior meal.

Burger King has decided it will no longer offer plastic toys with its kids' meals.

The recycled toys will then be melted down, and used to make BK's plastic trays and play areas.

In a tweet, Burger King said: "The toys are transformed into play areas and special trays! This means we are not only eradicating single-use plastic toys from our business, but we are also replacing any new plastics that would have been purchased for the trays & play areas."

Participating restaurants will accept plastic toys given away with BK meals, meals from other fast food retailers and toys given away with products such as magazines or cereal boxes.
