Burger King launches new halloumi burger in UK – available today

Halloumi, the Cypriot cheese that’s chewy, salty and best eaten when fried, is slowly but surely taking over the UK.

Long found in food markets across London, with halloumi fries and burgers now stocked in supermarkets, Burger King has jumped on the halloumi bandwagon today introducing its new Halloumi Burger.

Available as either a single or double patty, the vegetarian burger will be served in a brioche bun with lettuce, onions, tomato and creamy mayonnaise.

Burger King’s new offering was first trialled in Sweden and has been brought to the UK after ‘public pleading’.

The single-patty burger is £3.99 for a burger and £5.99 for a meal while the double-patty burger is £5.49 for the burger and £7.49 for the meal – both are now available at Burger King franchises throughout the UK.

In the past year, the UK has seen a halloumi boom with supermarkets Aldi and Tesco now permanently stocking halloumi fries, while last month Iceland announced it was selling halloumi burgers.

The UK has now been earmarked as one of the biggest importers of halloumi, as Brits consume around 2,000 tonnes of the squeaky cheese each year.
