Burger King is asking people to eat at McDonald's during lockdown

Over the years, Burger King and McDonald's have competed with one another to be the country's most popular burger chain.

Both are popular with high street shoppers, and both have loyal fans across the globe.

But in a shock move, Burger King is now asking people to go and eat at McDonald's - and its reason for doing so is truly heartwarming.

In a statement online, Burger King wrote: "Order from McDonald’s.

"We never thought we would ask you to do this, just as we never imagined we would ask you to order from KFC, Domino’s Pizza, Subway, Five Guys, Greggs, Papa John's, Taco Bell and other independent food outlets, too numerous to mention here.

"In short: from any of our sister food chains (fast or not fast).

"We never thought we'd be asking you to do this, but restaurants employing thousands of staff really need your support at the moment

"So if you want to help, keep treating yourself to tasty meals through home delivery, takeaway or drive thru.

"Getting a Whopper is always best, but ordering a Big Mac is also not such a bad thing."

The rules for visiting McDonald's from November 5

"Respect from a McDonald’s fan," one social media user responded, reports Birmingham Live.

"Plus, 30% off in the app for McDonald's at the moment!" a second added.

"Kudos. Really impressive," a third agreed, while a fourth  branded it "classy".

Another wrote: "Youre both god tier and mad respect for saying this. things will get better eventually cant wait for my next portion of fries."
