Burger King halloumi burgers are launching in the UK

As the feverish demand at the Christmas Markets last year proved, Manchester can't get enough of battered halloumi (what's not to love about deep-fried cheese, eh?)

Now Burger King is launching its long-awaited halloumi burger in news that will be music to every vegetarian's ears.

Available from today in branches across the UK, it revolves around a slab of the salty Cypriot cheese, which is deep-fried and then stacked in a buttery brioche bun with lettuce, onions, tomatoes and mayonnaise.

It costs £3.99 for a single burger (or £5.99 as a meal with chips and a soft drink) or you can add an extra halloumi patty to enjoy a double burger for £5.49 (£7.49 as a meal).

The launch follows a trial in Sweden which had the public pleading for the fast food giant to bring the burger to the UK.

Teasing the new product last week on Twitter, Burger King wrote: "We heard you guys like halloumi."

And confirming the news today, they added simply: "You're welcome."

The UK is now one of the world's biggest importers of halloumi, consuming more than 2,000 tonnes of the Cypriot delicacy per year.
